ANAHEIM - College presidents won sweeping approval Wednesday of academic reforms designed to improve athletes' graduation rates.
NCAA convention action will:
- Toughen the entrance standards of Proposition 48, raising the required number of college preparatory courses and minimum grade-point.
- Require athletes to complete 25% of their work toward a college degree before their third year, 50% before their fourth, 75% before their fifth.

A Supreme Court ruling Wednesday could launch a torrent of lawsuits by women and girls who claim they're victims of sex bias in school programs - including athletics.
In a surprising unanimous vote, the court put teeth into a 1972 law that bars sex discrimination at any education program that receives federal aid - covering virtually all public and private institutions.

Violate Title IX, be prepared to pay. That's the message to school and amateur sports programs coming out of Wednesday's Supreme Court ruling that damages are available for intentional discrimination.
